If you do there is a good chance it has knob and tube wiring.
Knob and tube wiring was the approved method of electrifying a home in it's day and was perfectly suited for the time period. Fast forward sixty years and that electrical system can have deteriorated to the point of being dangerous.
What happens is the insulation which is cloth covered natural rubber has dried out and crumbled if the wires have been over heated by over fusing (putting too large a fuse on a circuit that is over loaded), or in ceiling light fixtures from the heat of the incandescent light bulbs. Also over the years it could have been altered by adding on new outlets to the wires without soldering the connections causing hot spots. All knob and tube wiring was always originally soldered at every connection point.
Now why call Jet Electrical Contractors?
We have a team that knows the construction methods used in the various building periods. This makes it easier for our guys to accomplish the job without destroying the house. There are tricks to getting the cables to the different locations they need to go to without making big holes everywhere. It is easy to rewire a house if you go punch a bunch of holes, but that is not our way. It is inevitable that some holes do have to be made but we patch and plaster as we go.
We just finished a beautiful 150 year old heritage house in with much of the original plaster walls and ceilings and period wallpaper where still in place and a minimum of damage was imperative. Now this kind of work does not come cheap and it is impossible to give a firm quote because of the many variables involved and each house comes with it's own set of challenges . We can provide though an estimate based on our past experience.
So if you need an electrical company with a delicate touch give us a call at 613 484 0989. We would be happy to serve you and your happy home.
